CHARACTER INFO
Character Name:
Jason Todd | Red Hood
Age:
19
Canon:
DC Comics | Red Hood and the Outlaws

World Description:
Red Hood and the Outlaws

History:
Jason Todd

Death:
Jason Todd is famous for dying in canon, but I'm going to give him a second death. Towards the end of the latest RHATO arc, he has a fight with Essence, an old flame of his. In canon, she stabs him in the chest, but he can't be hurt by her sword. I'm changing that to, "yes you can, you dummy."

What are your plans for this character in-game?
At this point in canon, Jason's going through a bit of a backslide in terms of development. He's basically lost his fellow outlaws, and is acting alone. This means pissing off Bruce, isolating himself, and going so rogue that his mentors are trying to kill him. I want to stick him in a situation where he can't be alone, and he has to leverage some of the people skills he's learned. In addition, I would like him to open up more and possibly be smacked out of his backslide. After all, he has things to do back in Gotham, and he wouldn't want to deal with an extended stay anywhere. This would pressure him to make immediate and sincere connections.

What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with?
The death aspect. Jason, in canon, is famous for being a character who has "died" and come back. Needless to say, he has a complicated relationship with death, to the point of having had at least one full psychotic break. He states he hallucinates his death "every day" and that it haunts him. As for this latest death, he would completely reject it, and be suspicious of the fact that he's "died" again. It could be interesting, because he would be resolute on that perspective. He's seen death before-- this was not how it worked last time, so why should he trust it? Note, even if the death wasn't due to a miscalculation he rejects, he'd probably have the same view. However, this particular death opens up a chance to shake his faith in whether he is fundamentally good, if the game decides to go there.

How does your character generally get along with other people?
Jason is closed off by default. He doesn't trust anyone immediately, though he's good at pretending he does. Jason often looks at relationships through the lens of "What can you do for me?" more than anything else. That isn't to say he's not capable of making or mending relationships, but he often goes through periods of two steps forward and three steps back. He's willing to blackmail, bribe, or outright threaten to get what he wants. And even when his intentions are completely innocent, he never corrects people if they assume the worst in him. But it should be said that he's learned a lot about coping and about talking things through with others, in part thanks to being locked in a psychiatric ward by Dick. (Remember, he's had one full psychotic break before.) And once he has decided that someone is his friend, or his team, he will put everything on the line for them, against most sane advice. Which is what makes it so devastating when he loses his friends, as he currently has.

What is your character's mental state upon entering the game?
He's already not doing great, death aside. He's blackmailed Bruce into letting him do what he wants, taking advantage of the fact that Bruce won't kill him. After 4 years of being alive, he's only just revealed to the world that his secret identity (Jason Todd) is alive. But that, in and of itself, is part of a massive revenge campaign on the Penguin.

Besides that, three out of four of his closest friends are all dead as far as he knows, including the woman he loves. His father figure wants nothing to do with him, and someone keeps taunting him with the fact that his real father is actually alive. Because he doesn't try to correct others when they mistrust him, he's cut all ties with the latest Robin, Damian Wayne (after giving him a pretty solid beating), and he has no clue where Dick is. And he was never very fond of Tim anyway. Then his ex-girlfriend decided she needed to kill him because he went "full evil."

So no... he's not doing great, but Jason is good at nothing if not convincing people he's a lone wolf and that he prefers it that way.

Skills/Abilities:
Badass Normal:
- League of Assassin's training
- Advanced weapons and marksmith training
- Advanced bombmaking training
- Highly skilled with swords
- Pickpocketing/carjacking/typical street rat skills
- Can take a punch like no one else
- Skilled at parkour and related acrobatics

Not So Badass Normal:
- Can basically pull swords from nowhere. His swords are a "projection of his soul."

Flaws/Weaknesses:
Jason, while incredibly smart on his own, is not "smart." He gets caught up in his rage, and has more of a reputation of being a street brawler than a skilled assassin. This means he tends to take lots, and lots of punches. And that he depends on others for his tech advances. And it also means he is often regarded as "the stupid Robin."

He also has that tendency for keeping secrets and never explaining himself, relying on others to just "know" him. Even though he has a reputation for not exactly being mentally stable. It's led to more than one person he's trusted abandoning him.

And then finally, he really isn't mentally stable. Part of how Jason was brought to life involves taking a dip in the Lazarus pools, which are famous for driving people insane, as well as extending someone's life. He is completely capable of completely losing all conception of right and wrong on a bad day, and has horrific hallucinations regularly. He completely underrates how bad these things both are, and assumes he's just fine.

Personality:
He is a relatively black and white person when it comes to views on morality and justice. If you're good, you deserve second chances and help. If you're bad, he doesn't exactly believe in holding any punches, even if it's tactically advantageous. He also has a lot of remaining rage from his first death. Not over the fact that he died, but over the fact that his killer was allowed to remain free and to hurt and kill others. This often puts him in direct conflict with Bruce Wayne, his father figure. Because he wants to be accepted and loved, but also he can't let go of the fact that he's angry all of the time.

This means that he tries to help the bat family, but will just as quickly do something that makes them angry, or will overreact if they do something that makes him angry. This feud often plays out in his monologues over whether or not he loves Gotham. He can't help but speak disparagingly of the city all the time, and yet still goes out of his way to try and help it, even if he's on the other side of the country.
