mr. wayne, i've only been slightly evasive besides, wayne industries hasn't exactly been positive for everyone back home probably something you should consider before making this about you
i've told you my name. i might have been evasive, but i wasn't lying about that. when/if you ever actually recognize it, then we can talk. which i think is pretty generous here. don't the haves tend to want to keep the have-nots away? mercy me. think about what the neighbors would say.
& trust me, i'm pretty confident that this is one mystery you won't be able to solve
You could have avoided me entirely if you wanted to. You could have lied through omission and made inquiries through private channels. You could have let me drown.
Whether you want to give me responsibility or not, we both know where it belongs.
[ i thought about it, he thinks bitterly. but he knows that bruce is right. he could have been more careful. he'd been sloppy ever since he'd gotten there-- in part because who fucking would have expected? it was like a law of nature that nothing would ever actually take down Bruce Wayne.
a Bruce from before he was even born. how the hell was he supposed to anticipate that? know what information to carefully guard?
but still. ]
is this supposed to move me? i always thought your speeches were a little vapid but now i guess i know
[It isn't really about trying to move him at all. Bruce knows that most of Gotham doesn't trade in honesty- it's a devalued currency. And he knows that he too has been wearing a mask, trading one shape for another until he can find the one that fits.
This is who he is. Not Bruce Wayne, but whatever it is that's underneath- he's a person that says these things and means them. He's also a person that says these things and knows they'll provoke an answer. That he'll get something else.
What an irony that the answer has been there all along: he's both.]

it'd be stranger if i didn't know who you were.

You wouldn't have been nearly this evasive otherwise.

But it's interesting that you chose to use the company as an example, instead of an explanation.

nothing about you is personal, so i chose to evade rather than take out my grievances on what

My age doesn't absolve me of my responsibility.

There's a small first aid kit in the church, beneath the fourth pew on the southwest side.
For you hands.
Goodnight.
