Jay sidesteps, surprisingly lightly, and then knocks him straight in the solar plexus with one hand, while the other grabs the hand griffin just punched with, applying pressure to one of the points there-- and then pushing him back until his back hits the wall.]

[Ugh okay fine. Maybe doing the loudest thing in any given situation isn't the greatest tactic ever devised. Just-- give him a sec to recover from being winded... It's just training, ok]

[How's this then: a strike aimed at the inner elbow of the arm Jay was holding him with, to collaspe his grip. Then-- a backhand slam to his throat to force him off.]

[he's learning, and that definitely gets Jay to back off from him-- giving him a chance to advance on him.

but there's something... happy? proud? in that cocky grin he gives as he does it?]

[Wh-- how dare you smile at him with that face??? whats goin on. Why does Griffin suddenly feel a flush in his cheeks.]

Wow, did you just call me boring??

[UNFORGIVABLE that only makes him want to force feed Jay his teeth even more! With a huffy growl, Griffin rushes in with a hook to Jay's face-- only to divert the punch at last second to grab the top of his head and slam in down into a knee strike.]

[fuck that hurt-- but he has to focus, and as he steps back, his balance shifts, almost like he might fall-- and instead his leg lifts up and slams into Griffin's side with force, like he was never in danger of falling at all.

blood drips from his nose and his mouth, and he quickly reaches up to wipe away at them with the back of his hand.]

One, flashy, easy to avoid move?

[he... he still looks like he's have fun. so much for not smiling]

[Goddammit why was it that Griffin was starting to smile too? Like Jay was contagious or something, fuck.

The kick's impact was nearly enough to knock Griffin off his balance - but he grabs Jay's shirt instead, and hooks his foot behind the one Jay kept planted on the ground. With an upper body shove and a lower body sweep, he's gonna try and knock him on his back again]

I didn't hear any complaints about my legs before!!

It's not a complaint, so much as an observation.

[said as he's pushed down to the ground. he knows this is a bad spot to be in, but his blood is pumping, heart is racing. there isn't anywhere he'd rather be. but his hand is firmly in Griffin's shirt, and he uses that, plus the landing, to pull him down--

and headbutt him.

but jay's got a pretty hard head too]

[On the one hand, Jay had already headbutted him before, so he could kind of see this coming.

On the other, he only had enough time to avoid the crown of Jay's skull from meeting his crunchy nose parts. So it hit the solid part of Griffin's head too.

The kind of cool and impressive move that would leave both of them stunned and their heads hurting like idiots.]

... Note... to self.

[fuck, he needs like-- 3 seconds. He knows what he was going to do next. just. 3 seconds.]

[When Griffin does manage to get his bearings, he opens his eyes to find... Jay underneath him. Also dazed and-- strangely vulnerable?

Without really realizing it, he finds himself wondering what it'd be like if Jay smiled at him again, like-- with that look from before. The softer one, that was all fondness and pride.

It was nice after all.

It'd be nice to kiss it?]

[his vision focuses, painfully slow. annoyingly slow. but he can tell Griffin is just... staring at him? and he's confused, looks it for a moment. If he tries to stand, he knows he'll just stumble, but Griffin isn't moving either, so he's probably recovering slowly too.

Probably.

His hands go to the ground, waiting for that moment he recognizes he'll be able to push up, then strike, knock griffin unconscious.]

[Now Jay's looking back at him but he's not pushing away... Griffin blinks, trying to force himself out of these distracted thoughts but

There's blood on Jay's mouth, fresh pearls of it collecting from where it had met the kick. Without really thinking, Griffin gently wipes it clean with his thumb. Jay's lip is soft, despite the rough, healing skin.

And despite himself, Griffin leans in. Drawn by the urge to feel those lips on his own again.]

[— what.

His hands stop, and he freezes. A moment of confusion, probably more costly than he wants to admit. And his gaze focuses as Griffin leans in.

Is he gonna do it...? Now?

It buys stillness from Jay for a moment because he doesn’t know what to do in a case like this.]

[It's not until their noses graze that Griffin realizes-- wait, no. He had to stop. Jay didn't want this kind of thing to, to be seen and-- the audience would get the wrong idea and--

Griffin backs off, sharply - plants his feet to get off Jay. Just training. Just fighting right now.

...So he grabs Jay around the midsection and YANKS HIM OFF THE GROUND, throwing his whole body over Griffin's own like a human bridge. His spine arcs backwards and, not letting go, he slams Jay's head into the floor in an overhead suplex.]

-- Holy shit!

[this will teach him not to get distracted. ow.

he. honestly, this would have been fine, if not for the botched headbutt, or the additional punchings from a few days ago. but also, the low stakes just makes him slowly, slowly raise a hand to his head-- feeling for anymore blood- and then push up onto his feet, a little more unsteadily than he'd allow if he intended to continue.]

You really are a goddamned wrestler.

I told you so.

[Griffin flops down onto the floor and rubs his face, trying to shake off the lingering feelings of... attraction? Or just longing for approval and affection?

Catch your breath. Okay.

He looks back up at Jay, noting the wobbliness.] ...You okay?

Yeah.

[he steadies quickly enough. he probably could keep going. but he won't.]

What are you even trying to learn from me?

[Griffin blushes deeper, muttering,]

Maybe I just like throwing you t'the ground.

Don't need to put this whole production on to do that.

[and he leans against the wall, crossing his legs at the ankles, and his arms over his chest, he takes one last wipe at the blood on his face.]

But it's more fun this way.

[Jay had been smiling, he couldn't deny that. Slowly, Griffin gets to his feet as well, with a small smirk of his own.]

Maybe.

[he watches him, tilting his head lightly.]

And here you had me going on the whole "teacher" bit.

But I am learning.

[He cracks his neck, ready to go again]

'Sides, you didn't cross off grappling in the ground rules.

So, you saying you want round two.

[he won't say anything about the grappling. just means he's going to have to be careful.]
