THE LOST DAYS... Round 1.

It's all darkness.

The feeling of nothingness, of being nothing. Of not existing. You have no thoughts, you will never have any thoughts again. While that fact is not comforting, because you cannot be comforted anymore, it is true.

There's a certain rest to being... nothing. And to both knowing and not knowing, that your time is done.

So it's all the more unfortunate when you feel, because you shouldn't feel. And the feeling is burning in your lungs, which you shouldn't have. Because you are- or were- nothing.

And then, you inhale a desperate gasp of air and open your eyes...

You find yourself on the street of a city. Its sounds and sights are everywhere! If you've ever wondered what a real modern city might sound like, this is it. The street is relatively well lit, though there aren't many people out at this time of night. And there's an instinct in you that recognizes you should definitely stay away from some of them. You hear a cop car in the distance, but it quickly fades.

Otherwise, it's late at night, and while there are some lights on in the apartments over the street, the primary source of light is the street lamps. You sort of smell someone's dinner, but it's faded, and mostly overwhelmed by the smell of a recent rain. If you look behind you, you see yourself at the entrance of a... school? "Ma Gunn's School for Wayward Children."

You could go in there, or you could turn in either direction on the street.

[ ...weird.

Well, school seems boring—she's pretty sure there's no warriors, much less any war, there at all. Obviously a waste of time!!

So she heads down the street, picking a direction essentially at random. How about... down the street to the right. ]

And who should she find-- but Red Hood?

He's leaning against a wall, and it's hard to tell because of the mask, but he looks... off put.

"What do you want?"

[ A person! Wearing red over his head!!! She has got this. ]

Are you Jason?

It's Red Hood.

I'm gonna need a drink after all this shit.

[ she grins. she is SO GOOD at this job. ]

That's great! Ah—

[ hurrying up to him, then holding out her hand proudly, the tiny seed of a communicator centered in her palm ]

I'm supposed to bring you this.

[he stares at that, and then picks it up, examining it.

and somehow-- it expels a green gas.

This hits both of them.

And, well, Kiri Hellfire. What if the Joker gave you a person you could control?

[Red Hood looks faded-- almost... green? Definitely not the right color. And how... did he understand her?

To fight...? [ she giggles, though it's threaded with an edge of mania ]

None of the things I want vengeance on are here right now, but...
Well, Jason-senpai wants to fight you. That would be fun, right?

[ This close to her true nature, though, it's all so effortless—like she could look right past the Lie of the world. Like she could see the True Thing beyond.

There is only one Jason-senpai, which she'd already picked up on. But she realizes suddenly, as the world is awash in a green glow that the person she had talked to... was not him. He was a part of him. But he was not him.

And Red Hood's conceptualization of Jason leaves him chasing after only one of them.

He starts to move back the way she came.

Is this place serious...?

[ He's definitely going to check out the wayward children's school ]

This school looks... normal? A bit old fashioned, with its wooden desks. There are notes, and multiplication tables strewn out across all of the room. Even basic cursive! But there's no sign of the kids that should be there.

As you look around though, you notice that the pictures aren't right. There's detailed shot casings, guides to how to track a target.

Even some notes of French and Spanish. And towards the back of the class, there's a small figure with a hoodie pulled up. It looks like its napping?

[ Takes a few cautious steps into the room ]

Hello?

The voice groans at hearing him. "Ain't it break time already?"

He shifts just enough for a shock of black hair to show under the red hoodie, and then blue eyes stare at Talon, while his chin stays on the desk.

"Didn't I just save you?"

[ Frowns!! ]

You don't need to rub it in.

I'm on clean-up duty now. Jason said not all of it has been dealt with yet.

"Oh, I had no idea," his voice is dripping with sarcasm as he speaks, and he sits up.

He is a little bit younger than Talon no, and every bit of a rough street rat. But he seems a big amused as he grins.

"You guys nailed it with my help, obviously."

[ Rolls his eyes, amused ]

But you could not have done it without us.

"Please. I'm the only one that would've rushed in to help you. You really got a death wish going down there."

As he says that, he approaches, easily.

"So, like I said, if you're gonna be a bunch of dumbos, you're gonna need me."

He picks ups a multiplication table to check it idly, and then tosses it.

"Anyway, if you're on clean-up duty, what're you doing here?"

[ Watches the chart go fluttering away ]

Looking for traces of it, obviously. I was not given a roadmap to which locations still need aid.

What are you doing here?

"Uhhh, going to school," he says, giving him a look that clearly asks 'isn't it obvious?'

He starts to walk towards the door.

"A shitty crime school, but it's still school. Anyway, you comin'? Only thing you'll find here is my life before all the crime fightin' and stuff."

[ Hesitating. It feels like it would be prying, but... ]

Are you sure it's alright?

"You wanna snoop?"

He turns as he reaches the door, and scrunches his face in childish contemplation. "I mean... You're in here, and you didn't get kicked out after beefing it. So I guess you could?"

There's a brief pause. "I mean, I'm not that Red Hood asshole, so I don't care."
